How to feel mor confident in your business photos
As it is the month of love, I wanted to help you share more love for yourself for the future. For me, that’s bringing confidence and compassion to yourself.
Let’s be honest, being in front of a camera can be a strange experience – that’s why even photographers like me go to professionals to make sure we get the best results! In the age of social media marketing and creating business relationships through online mediums, photographs of the people behind the business are ever more popular. In turn, this means more of us have to get in front of the camera and go against any uncertainty or self-conscious issues to help us build our businesses.
How can we make ourselves feel more confident when in business photos? There are a few things I have learned over the years, and often share with my clients to help them in our branding photoshoots.
Plan the photographs in advance
Having a plan can help put you at ease. With a plan you can know what you are going to be doing ahead of time, know where you are going if it is location-based, as well as what you will be wearing, potentially some poses that you have discussed with your photographer, and any props you require.
When there is a plan in place our minds can calm down a little, because we are no longer walking into the unknown.
Get to know your photographer ahead of the shoot
As with many service-based businesses, the personal connections we have with those providers is essential to the results. The same goes for photography. I find it is paramount to get to know my clients well ahead of their branding photoshoots so we can feel like we are more meeting as friends, rather than strangers.
Whether we are meeting up online for a virtual consultation, or face to face over a cuppa – these are the important elements that will help you feel more at ease in front of my camera. So, if you are planning to have a photoshoot, make sure you have the opportunities to connect with your photographer before your session.
Get into the right mindset before the photoshoot
When you are on your way to your photoshoot, there are some ways to help you get into the right mindset. Whether it’s the affirmations in your head, putting on your favourite lipstick, adding heels to boost your confidence, or making sure you have a smooth morning wake up routine – getting yourself into the mindset on your way to the session is so helpful.
Relax and unwind – or dance it out at the photo session!
How do you unwind or deprogramme after a stressful day? For some it’s taking a breath, for others it’s moving and dancing out the nerves. When we understand ways we can get to feel more comfortable, it can help us in many situations, including branding photos!
Getting some music playing in our studio is just one way I help clients relax in photography session, whereas if this isn’t possible in a location-based photography shoot, we can chat, connect, giggle, grab a tea, whatever it takes for you to get those nerves out of your system.
Let your photographer do the hard work
Finally, your photographer is there to do the work that will help you shine. It is my job not only to put you at ease during the branding photoshoot – whether through our face to face photo sessions or our virtual photography. It is then my job thereafter to send the photographs that will work best for your needs, edit where appropriate and make sure you are happy and confident with using them.
Sometimes little niggles can come through with our confidence, but I do hope that with some mindset techniques, and even adding a touch of comfort to the day, will help you take that step to a confidence-filled and enjoyable photography session.
